I was really impressed with the Puck Putt event for many reasons - but what stuck me the most was seeing the great relationships between the young people and adults. Mentors and mentees. Afterschool staff and kids. Regardless of the type of relationship it was very apparent that they all represented true friendships. Ones that will probably last for years. It really makes you realize that not only do kids need positive adult role models in their lives, but we are also in great need of more mentors, coaches, and afterschool volunteers. I hope that some of the people who came to the event will be inspired to get involved in an afterschool program or a mentoring program.
On a different note - I thought the two Bruins players were awesome. They got right in with the kids and played golf, signed autographs, and most importantly just talked with them. Every time I turned around they were talking to a different young person. How cool is that for the kids?! That will be a great memory for them!
